The Looney Shooting Case.

♦» A FEILDING SENSATION

APPLICATION FOR BAIL REFUSE I >. [By Telkgrapu.] (Per l're:.s Association.} Feu-dixo, This day. Thomas and Annie Looney, who were arrested on Monday afternoon on charges of shooting with intent to kill, and the former with aiding and abetting, were remanded till Tuesday next. Bail was refused, tbe police objecting to it being granted owing to the important nature of the charges. It is probable they will be heard before the S.M. The case of alleged rape against Gillies was dealt with yesterday before two Justices, and the information was dismissed without hearing tbe evidence for tbe defence. This information was laid by Annie Looney, who is 21 years of age. It was from this alleged offence that the shooting affray on Monday arose. Dr Charlton, who was wounded in the head, is not so well this morning, having passed a bad night. The preliminary report of the Feilding sensation was not wired by the Press Association agent, but, as far as we can learn, the young woman Looney and her father took possession of the town for half an hour on Monday. The girl was armed with a revolver, and fired sis shots without hitting anyone. She then reloaded the revolver, and while Dr Charlton was attempting to disarm her he was hit in the head, but was not dangerously injured. Both the father and daughter were arrested. Looney purchased the revolver and accompanied his daughter to look for a man to shoot, whom his daughter claimed to have a grievance against.
