Accidents and Fatalities.

A jockey named Murdoc M'Lean was thrown from a horse at kelson on Wednesday. In falling he struck the back of his head against one of the stall doors, receiving a severe wound. News has been received that Mr William Alexander, of Wanganui, was thrown from a dogcart at Wolverhampton, England, on Tuesday last nnd killed. Deceased, who was 42 years of age, left for a trip Home last year. A young mnn named Mainwaring had a miraculous escape from death at Karangahake one evening last week, lie and another were running two trucks from the Talisman battery across the river to the cyanide buildings, and through some alleged carelessness on the part of the other man, who was behind, he allowed his truck to dash into Mainwaring's truck going clown the incline. The latter was knocked off his truck, and fell with his head on one of the rails, and in this position he was skidded about twenty yards along the line by the other truck, the wheel of which was pressed against his head. Only the incline of the line prevented the wheel from going over his head. When examined by the doctors it was found that he had a large hole behind one ear, while the other ear was split open and required six stitches. A large hole was also gouged out of his shoulder, and he is considerably cut and bruised, but will probably soon recover. His escape is nevertheless a miraculous one.
