The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals bad a discussion on the treatment of cattle, induced by a report from the Christchurc-h Socic-ty that some animals landed there went inad from thirst. The inspector said there were no receiving at Wellington and the cattl«fOEOuMnot drink from buckets on the steamers. Troughs ought to be provided at railway stations and the animals fed and watered before going on board. The society considered that trucking cattle was cruelty, and decided to ask Sir Robert Stoat to bring the matter before Parliament.
