Accidents and Fatalities.

[By Telegraph.] (Po - Press AsHociation.) Auckland, This day. An Infant named Irene Lockie, eleven months old, met with a singular death at Komekaraka on Saturday. She put a piece of wood in her mouth and swallowed it. It stuck in the wind pipe and choked her, death resulting in five minutes. A verdict of accidental death was returned. Christchurch, This day. A girl, eight years old, a daughter of Walter Codling, St. Albans, died suddenly this morning. The cause is unknown. An inquest will be held. Palmekston, July 27. At 5 o'clock this morning a young man named H. W. Marsh, of Pahiatua, was found dead in Domain street, near the railway station. Deceased left Woodville on Saturday last with the intention of proceeding to Wellington. The body bore no mark of violence. Death is attributed to heart disease.

A fireman named Hogg was working in the coal-bunkers of the Gothic, on the voyage out, when he had his right thigh broken. The surgeon of the vessel and Dr Wynn, a passenger, set the limb, and Hogg is now progressing satisfactorily. The "Wbangarei Advocate reports that a Maori named Paihana was crushed badly by a tree falling on him a few days ago. Dr Lowe lost no time in attending to him, and wished to amputate the foot, but the native objected, and declined to permit it. Mortification set in, and he died three days afterwards.
