RULE BRITANNIA.
Her Majesty's Government are determined that nothing shall be left undone to maintain the naval supremacy of Great Britain. Besides the vast sums spent and to be spent in warships and armament and the increase in the number of blue jackets and marines, an enormous expenditure is to be incurred in constructing naval bases and dockyards. Hong Kong is to be brought up to the standard of a first-class naval station and garrisoned accordingly. In South Africa, too, a naval station is to be equipped, and at Gibraltar and Malta expenditure on docks has been heavy. Mont of this outlay was provided for in the estimates, and now comes news that over three millions additional is to be spent in the interests of the navy. The construction of a dock at Dover, it can be easily seen, will be of great usefulness to the Channel fleet,"" and the dock construction at Colombo will serve the purposes of the squadron in the East. It is necessary that " Rule Britannia" should always be not a figment of speech but a stern reality ; and that being so, all true Britishers will rejoice to see the Mother .Country adding strength to the Britisn Navy.
