The piovisions of the alien laws are being strictly enforced in America and are found to operate harshly against Canadians. The Berlin correspondent of the Standard reports that King Menelik of Abyssinia has ordered a force of 20.000 soldiers to proceed to the Upper Nile to operate with the British expedition against the Dervishes. Cape Town, .July 10. Reports from Salisbury state that the Hussars have cleared the Umgavt district, Mashonaland, of rebels. The troopers killed 10 rebels at Fort Charter.
