TRAINING NOTES

[By Gifsy Grand.]

This morning saw a number of. touts in attendance, including Messrs Lowry, Richardson, Donnelly, andLogan. Several ladies were also present. The first to imprint hoof marks on the plough were Captain Russells two yr-olds, by Dreadnought and Kempenfeldt. The pair were sent over a couple of circuits at half pace with sweaters on, moving very well.

Douglas was sent over four rounds at half pace. He is on the big side at present, but is otherwise souud and well.

Searchlight pnllecl hard for a couple of rounds. Gooseman has the daughter of Maxim very well just now and some of her former dash may be exhibited before long. St Conon put in long steady work. The Cup candidate is going through his preparation nicely. Rangipunehu put in three-quarter pace work over a couple of rounds. Mutiny, with Parker up, and Morag, with Redmond in the saddle, were put over the big country together for a couple of rounds. Both horses jumped well. Mutiny made a very clever jump at the post and rails in the straight. He slipped right into his fence but cleaeed it without touching. Brennan, Martyrdom and Coeur da Lion jumped oft at top over a circuit and finished all out. The son of Dreadnought was in front at the post. Rioter and a Stonyhurst horse ware worked together over a couple of rounds. The Plug (F. Cochrane) and Barbarossa (Mr Louglman) put in two rounds over the steeplechase country, the latter pulling hard all the way. The son of July greatly pleased the touts by his performance, and Cochrane handled him well.

Golden Plover, Umslopogaas, Tussock, Greenstone, Velocity and Drury Lane were sens over the hurdles for a couple of rounds, but the jumping cannot be said to have been good. .Drury Lane fell and rolled over Redmond, who escaped with a slight shaking. The others finished up very poorly and Tussock almost fell at the last fence.

Aphony put in a strong mile and a quarter.

Lotion will be a non-starter for the H.B. Hurdle Race owing to the bandieapper's severity in placing him above several well performed horses. Mutiny, Donald McKinnon, and Tiritea have been entered for the V.R.C. Grand National and Steeplechase and Hurdles. St Simon is entered for the same events.

Erl King finished unplaced in the Jubilee Hurdle Race at Manchester with lOst 41b up.

" Caller On in the Herald this morning credits Sou'-wester as the sire of Rhino. This is not so. Rhino is by The Dauphin. Loch Leigh, a son of Lochiel, has passed into D. O'Brien's hands.

In the assault case, Derrett v. O'Connor, the latter was fined £1 and costs. Bombhell started at Kempton Park on Easter Monday but ran nowhere. Mauser is to be entered for some of the events at the Winter meeting.

Mikado II had the first fall in his life when competing in the last steeplechase at Fleinington. Zanella and Blarney are in steady work at "Waipawa.
