An hotelkeeper named G. Matheson, of George's Plains, New South Wales, sustained a fracture of the skull by falling from a stationary truck to the railway line. An accident happened on Friday to George Theobald on the railway cooperative works six miles north of Mangaweka. He was working on the face of a cliff and, it is supposed, was struck by a lump from a blast above. He fell 80ft, but was saved from falling into the Eangitikei by a bush, otherwise he would have been killed on the spot. He was rescued in an unconscious condition from his position with great difficulty by his mates and brought to Mangaweka. Dr Smith was telegraphed for and arrived early in the afternoon. He pronounced the man's condition as precarious and that his recovery was uncertain. The extent of his injury is difficult to ascertain. Mr Theobald's friends have been sent for. His w r ife and children are at Rangiwahia and his father's family are at Hunterviile.
