Supreme Court Sittings.
(By Telegraph.)
(Per Press Association.)
Auckland, This day. At the Supreme Court this morning, Kelly and Murphy, charged with the theft of tobacco from Graham's bond were discharged, the police having no evidence to offer. Wellington, This day. At the Supreme Court Margaret Anderson, who pleaded guilty to a charge of false pretences, was sentenced to six months' hard labor, the Judge refusing to admit her to probation as there were several cases against her in the Lower Court. Ralph Farmer, who pleaded guilty to forgery, was admitted to probation for three years and ordered to pay £9 costs by weekly instalments of 5s each. The Judge said with respect to this that the probation officer should have the reports on first offenders ready. Mr Garvey was satisfied that there were objections to this course. Most of the information had to be obtained from the prisoners, and if they were approached before their trial it would certainly be suggested that this was done for improper motives. Under the circumstances he thought that reports could not be insisted on at once.
Richard Harwood, for forgery, was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to pay costs, £8 10s, in weekly instalments of ss.
