Accidents and Fatalities.
[By Telegraph.] (Per Press- Association.) Cheistchurch, This day. A child named Reginald Harold Broadley, 10 months old, died suddenly yesterday morning. It was sleeping with its mother and apparently well when she went to bed the previous evening. At Takaka (Nelson district) on Monday last a footballer named J. Higgins had bis leg broken. John Yukers, of Kanieri, an old miner of 70, fell into an old shaft at Cardiff terrace, 30 feet deep. He fortunately fell on to a dead cow, and only sustained a broken leg. It was a couple of hours before his cries were heard and he was rescued. Mr Herbert Clarke, Woodville, whilst riding along the Masterton road, met with a rather severe accident. His horse took fright, bolted, and ran into a team of horses. The horse fell, and Mr Clarke was badly crushed. It is feared he is injured internally. On Tuesday evening, as Mr M. Peach, of Ashley, and his daughter were driving home from Rangiora, the horse, which on previous occasions had tried to run away, became unmanageable, and careered along the road at full gallop. At the sharp turn near the Ashley Presbyterian Church the occupants of the trap were thrown violently on to the side of the road on the grass. The trap capsized and was considerably damaged, but the horse escaped practically unhurt. Miss Peach was severely shaken and bruised, and Mr Peach received rather serious injuries to his head and right lung.
