THE JAMESON RAID.
MEETING BREAKS UP IN CONFUSION. (Per Press A*socittti»n. —' "p><ri>iftt.) Loxnox, May 28. At the Transvaal Raid Inquiry Coin ni it tee Mr Harkc-slcy, after consulting with Mr Rhodes, refused to produce the cablegrams from Mr Rhodes to persons in London at the end of 1895. The Commissioner ordered him to produce them, holding that a solicitor was not able to claim protection which was refused to a client. The llou W. L. Jackson, chairman of the Committee, intimated his intention to report Mr Harke-dey's refusal to the House of Commons. Mr Alfred Belt was examined, and admitted spending £200,000 in forwarding the agitation on the Rand. He demadded that Mr Labouchere should either prove the charges made against him, to the effect that the object of his connection with the movement was money - making, or apologise for making such charges. Mr Labouchere stated he was prepared to p-ove them ; but the Committee was Dot in sympathy with his (Mr Labouchere's) method of examining witnesses, and the sitting adjourned in confusion.
