MISCELLANEOUS. The work of laying the light railway line round the washout an«l Waitangi has been commenced, and a largo number of liu n are engaged thereon. Scores of people from Hasting-; and Napier visited the scene of disaster yesterday, the ferry service at Waibeing kept busy all day. T. Ronayne, General Manager of iiaihvays, was busy yesterday inspecting the work at the washouts. The County Council made a start yesterday to drive the piles of the bridge over the Waitangi. A punt has been buiit for the Waitangi crossing, and material can now be carried across to the Farndon s de. Ciive residents are not straight in their houses yet. Large quantities of damaged beds, furniture and clothing were drying in front of the houses yesterday. In some of the dwellings there were quite 12 inches of silt, and the roads in places are still a mass of slush. All the drowned stock around Clive have been disposed of. The express ran from Hastings to Palmerston at the usual time to-day. Large gangs of men were at work at all parts of the damaged line yesterday. Special mention should he made of the excellent work put in last week by Messrs Court and Richmond (of the maintenance department) and Mr W. Palmer (of the locomotive department). Instead of being filled in the washout past Waitangi will be bridged. Messrs Konayne and Lowe left for Dannevirke by special train at 1.30 this afternoon. THE RELIEF FIND. Mr Collinge, Town Clerk, acknowledges the following subscriptions : Mr P.
