The premises of George Garrett, butcher, Ivarangahape road, were broken into and robbed, and a man named William Knox was caught redhanded on the premises with a quantity of householders' requisites and goods packed up ready for removal. Ivnox bolted after a hand to haji.l struggle with Garrett, and was sfcsequently captured after an exciting chase by a tradesman, and handed over to the custody of the police. He was brought up at the Police Court and remanded. Knox "was tried last criminal sessions ami pleaded guilty to the charge of receiving stolen goods. He was bound over on his own recognisances. The Minister of Public Works has promised consideration to the advisability of using water-gas for the colony's lighthouses.
