Mr Dingley, in introducing his Tariff BilC stated that the average yearly deficit during the past threeyears amounted to ~»0 million dollars. Fiee wool would cost the country 21 million dollars. Excluding wools, sugar, tobacco, and spirits, the average of the new duties would be 41 per cent. If his proposals were carried, the revenue in the second year would increase bv 100 million dollars.
