THE FEDERAL CONVENTION.

THE OPENING CEREMONY

(Per Vres* Ax.vn-iation.—Qopt/ritjht.) Adelaide, March 22. The first sitting of the Federal Contion took place at noon to-day, in the presence of a large and gay assemblage. The business was only of a formal nature and only lasted half an hour. The Hon. C. C'. Kingston was unanimously elected president. Sir W. Fowell-Buxton, the Governor, entertained the delegates at a garden party in the afternoon. A caucus meeting was subsequently held.

This day. From all accounts yesterday's caticus of Federal delegates was not a happy family, and at times the proceedings became so animated that several members threatened to withdraw. The Radical element from Victoria was much in evidence, and expressed a determination not to accept a constitution framed by anyone but themselves. Nothing of a definite nature was agreed to.
