Russia advocates Prince Danilo, heir apparent of Montenegro, as Governor of Crete. Further details show that a mosque at Dafius was fired by means of straw steeped in kerosene. The Moslems, in trying to escape, were stabbed and shot down. Similar atrocities were committed in other villages. March 17. Colonel Yassos is fortifying Alikaan. Greece is intensely incensed against Russia for leading the European concert. London, March 16. The first battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders, stationed at Malta, has been sent to Crete. March 17. The Athens correspondent of The Times states that the conviction prevail., that a general war is inevitable. The population insists that Colonel Yassos shall resist the Powers' demands, and that Turkey will be attacked if Greece bo blockaded. The Daily News slates that Greece offers to confine Colonel Yassos to a point on the coast away from the insurgents if the Turkish troops are dealt with in the same manner as the Greeks. The Turkish troops to evacuate Crete in the event of the Cretans accepting autonomy. Paris, March 17.
