NAVAL SUPREMACY.
(/Vr Pa ss- iati"n—< ojii/ri/i/it.) London, March G. Speaking in the House of Commons Sir Charles Dilke said there weve too few battleships proposed uncfer the navy estimates. In view of the increase in the French and Russian fleets it was imperative that England should outbuild the others, owing to the colonial ambitions of those Powers. The Hon. G. Goschen, First Lord of the Admiralty, in reply said that another GOOO men would be added in Ik{)s. "While the maximum active list required was 110.000 men, it was intended to largely develop the reserves, and in the event of war with any two Powers Geeat Britain would be distinctly superior both in number and quality of ships. Berlin, March G. Vice-Admiral Kallmann, Secretary for the Navy, has submitted to the Imperial Budget Committee proposals for the construction within three years of five battleships, six cruisers, three gunboats, and :-}<> torpedo boats at a cost of I'l 0.000.000 besides .£7,000,000 already voted. This enormous demand stupified the committee, which adjourned to consider the question.
