AT the request of the leading Lady and Gentlemen Vocalists and Instrumentalists of the district, I have undertaken to resuscitate the Hastings Orchestral and Vocal Musical Society for the practice of popular vocal and instrumental music. I shall be pleased to hear from any ladies and gentlemen wishing to join. It is my intention to give a series of short papers, on the theory and practice of music, embodying the results of 25 years' experience (my own—not my brother's) with such men as John Hill, R.A.M. ; E. Stratton, Bandmaster of Kaikorai Band ; Geo. Jones, Conductor Oamaru Band ; Herr Schott, Conductor and Obeo Player ; C. Coombes, Conductor and Soloist Ordinance Band, Dunedin ; G. A. Martin, Bandmaster Welsh Fusiliers ; Herr Von cler Mehden, Conductor and Composer; J. A. Delaney, the Premier Conductor of Australasia ; A. P. Sheath, the Conductor of Hawke's Bay; Marcus Hume, Organiser of Centennial Band Contests, Melbourne and Sydney; Fred. H. House, Nelson Garrison Band ; and many others of equal musical ability.
