Attempted Murder at Wellington.

SIX SHOTS FIRED

[By Telegraph.]

(I'er Association.)

Wellington, This clay. A man named William George Entwistle, who got into a very excited state yesterday over a sewing machine for which he was suing his wife, went home and procured a revolver and ran amuck among his household. He had been in bad terms with his wife for some time and evidently brooding over the matter he fancied something wrong. The family were staying with William Morris at Newtown and Entwistle, who had met Morris outside, by whom he was urged to become reconciled to his wife. He made a dash for the house, fired and hit his wife on the left elbow.- He then fired three more shots at his daughter Louie, all of which missed. lie then turned and fired at Morris as he entered. The bullet grazed his neck and went through his coat and shirt. He reloaded the revolver and again missed Morris. Another shot was heard which led to the belief he suicided. When the police entered, however, he gave himself up readily, merely expressing regret for bad shooting. It was found he had smashed up a quantity of crockery and furniture, including the sewing machine, the immediate cause of all the trouble. He also set fire to some bedding. Mrs Entwistle is not seriously hurt. At the Police Court Entwistle was remanded. He gave the police a full account of his life, which took three hours to tell, and was of a most extraordinary description. He gave his age as 77, though he does not look it, and says he served in the Sikh wars fifty years ago under Lord Gough.
