District State School.

♦ ANNUAL DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The Princess Theatre, kindly lent by Mr Ellis, was this afternoon filled with the children of the district school and a fair number of visitors, to witness the distribution of the prizes to the various pupils whose merits entitled them to the distinction. The prizes consisted of beautifully bound books from libraries dear to the hearts of boys and girls, which were presented to the children by. Captain W. R. Russell accompanied with a few %vords of strong and kindly encouragement for the future. The prizes for the infants were distributed by Miss Percy in the earlier part of the day, and each mite was presented with a card wishing them a happy Christmas. Before the distribution the children went through several choruses under Mr Smith's baton very creditably.
