The Coming Election.
(Per J'n'ns Axxoriation.) Gisborne, This day. Messrs Carroll and C. A. Fitzßoy have been nominated for Waiapu. Wellington, Nov. 26. Mr -T. J. H. Powell has been nominated for the City and Mr T. W. Hislop for the Suburbs. Messrs Robert Manisty and James Taylor have been nominated for Pahiatua. Mr Coleman Phillips, who intended to contest the Wairarapa seat, on his return to-day to Carterton from inland handed in his nomination paper, but the returning officer declined to accept it, as he had publicly announced that the nominations would close on the 25th inst. Mr Phillips is not satisfied with the decision, and is communicating with the Colonial Treasurer on the subject. Mr F. H. Fraser, one of the City candidates, addressed the electors tonight, and declared himself a Prohibitionist, and said he would not sacrifice himself to any party, but would support Liberal measures. He received a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr George Fisher was nominated in the City to-day, and Mr Thomas M. W 7 ilford for the Suburbs. This day. Messrs Hall-Jones and F. H. Smith have been nominated for Timarn. OAMARU,0 AMARU, Nov. 26. Messrs T. Y. Duncan and J. D. Sievwright have been nominated for Oamaru. Dunkdin, Nov. 26. Mr W T athem, owing to indisposition, was not nominated for the City, thus reducing the number of candidates to 12. Mr S. L. Brooks failed to send in his nomination paper for Caversham, leaving four candidates for that seat. For Waikouaiti Messrs James Green, E. G. Allen, J. J. Ramsay, A. Thomson, and G.J. For Bruce, James Allen and William Auld. For Taieri, W. Carneross. Ashburtox, Nov. 26. Over a thousand people, a large portion being ladies, assembled to hear the Premier's Address last evening. The Mayor presided. Mr Seddon defended the Government and criticised Captain Russell's Hastings speech, and defended the Hon. J. G. Ward. He mentioned W T r E. G. Wright's name, which was greeted w 7 ith cheers. Mr Seddon spoke for over three hours, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence, Invercargill, Nov. 26.
