In the suite of the Grand Duke Serge is an officer of the Guards, the Prince Z , whose wife bids fair to rival Ouida's most fabulous heroines. She is one oi the mn.st beautiful women in Kurope. Petite, brunette and sparkling with life, she looks but little older than her two little sons, to whom she is more than ordinarily attached. Her husband's wealth is so great that she can ratify every passing whim ; yet her greatest pleasure in life is* to hold high revel surrounded by children. Flitting in and out among them, with priceless pearls entwined in her hair and round her neck, diamonds studding her exquisitely fitting dresses, she looks the veriest "child among them all, her simple, happy nature endearing her to every one with whom she comes in contact; The prince possesses estates in 110 fewer than 17 different counties, a palace in St. Petersburg, another in Moscow, a villa near the Czar's favorite residence, an hotel in Paris and a .special troin tie /it.n■; yet with all this wealth the beautiful princess is as unspoiled and unaffected as a village maiden.
