Ormond's string—Hold, Solitaire, Dauntless, Defiance, Daredevil, and Sir Launcelot—left for Christcliurch yesterday by the Tarawera. Kapua also went south by the same steamer. The great racing carnival commences to-morrow at Flemington, and the interest taken in the meeting by New Zealanders is in 110 way diminishing. Derby, and The Officer in the Caullield Guineas, establish their claim. The early performances of Newliaven cannot be ignored, and his recent defeat weighs but little against his many victories.
