At a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council a resolution was passed by seven to two soliciting Sir Maurice O'Rorke to stand for Manukau. Leah Bergin has been arrested in Auckland on a charge of setting lire to premises occupied by her father, Adolph Bergin, confectioner. A branch of the Liberty League, to be free from political bias, has been established in Wellington. Among the league's objects is one that will advocate and support every reform for the extension of personal liberty. The condition of Lady Glasgow continues to improve. The Hon. J. Bigg, M.L.C., has declined to stand for the Wellington city. Mr W. Booth, of Carterton, and a director of the Bank of New Zealand, is mentioned as a likely candidate. A requisition is also to bo presented to Mr J. J. K. Powell asking him to contest the seat. Mr T. L. Buick, member for Wairau, has declined a request to contest tho Wairarapa seat with Mr W. 0.
