Opening of the Cricket Season.

A CUP MATCH

The first cup match of the season was played on the Heretaunga School ground on Saturday afternoon, when the Scinde Club (of Napier) with 15 players met the Hawke's Bay County Club (of Hastings). The day _ was fine, and the pitch in good condition. The visitors, captained by F. Fulton, went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for 68, H. Cooper and extras being the only two to make double figures. The bowling honors were divided between Andrews (six wickets), White (four), Brathwaite and M'Cartby (one) each. The County team were all out for 48. Gardiner proving very effective with the ball. J. S. D'Emden and W. Stuart were the only ones to make double figures. In the second innings of the Scinde Club the stumps were drawn with three wickets down for 24, towards which Frost rattled up 15. The fielding of both teams was quite up to the average,, but batting showed signs of want of practice. The following are the scores :
