The Loss of the Patrician.
THE FINDING OF THE INQUIRY. [By Telegraph.] [Special to Standard.] * Dunedin, This day. The decision of the magisterial inquiry into the loss of the Patrician was given to-day. Mr Carew, S.M., expressed the opinion that the loss was due to the heavy gale of wind, high sea, and to whatever cause the list of the ship was attributable. Mr' Thompson, Nautical Assessor, concurred, but having the advantage of nine years' experience in the coal carrying trade, was of opinion that Captain Sterling, in not making use of the shifting boards in 'tween decks, did not fully preserve the seaworthiness of the vessel in her encounter with tempestuous weather. It appeared to him that there was as much' need for compulsory shifting board regulations for vessels carrying coaj and grain as for the compulsory free board rule. He also suggested that rockets should form part of the equipment of vessels. The Court expressed its admiration of the gallant conduct of the mate, boatswain, and quartermaster of the Ftfeshiro.;
