Goldfields Committee.

THE MINES ACT AMEND MENT BILL. [By Telegraph.] < Fnnn our Special ('nrrvxpondent. j Wellington, This day. The Goldfields Committee again had the Mines Act Amendment Bill under consideration yesterday morning, when Mr Potts, President of the Thames Miners Association, gave evidence supporting the measure. He said there were 8000 miners belonging to the association who were in favor of the resumption clause of the Bill. Mr Potts further said there was a strong feeling among the miners that the clause in the existing law containing stipulations affecting certificates held lay mine managers should be repealed. He said there were hundreds or men in the colony quite capable of managing miiK's, but who could not pass the examination as stipulated by the Act. The feeling of the Committee is that though these restrictions might be relaxed there must bo some proof of capacity on the part of those holding the position of mine managers.
