Wellington Land Board.
AN IMPORTANT DECISION. TO HASTINGS RESIDENTS[By Telegraph.] [Special to Standabd.] Wellington, this day. At the Wellington Land Board yesterday an offer was received from Mr D. B. Murray, of the Napier Land Office, and late District Surveyor at Awarua, to purchase 640 acres, being part of the Awarua Block of 5,388 acres awarded to the Crown by the Native Land Court sitting at Hastings. Applicant wished to be allowed to purchase the land for cash under clause 115 of " The Land Act, 1892," and stated that he had seven of a family, all unmarried, the youngest being a boy of seventeen. Reference to the plan showed the land to be bounded on one side by the Oraikara Creek, a tributary of the Hautapu River. After discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Hogg, seconded by Mr Pirani, that Mr Murray be informed the Board consider that this block should be thrown open to the public and not disposed of privately, and that it is not advisable that applications for blocks of land recently acquired from the Natives from surveyors employed by the Government should be entertained previous to the land being thrown open for selection.
