A DASTARDLY CRIME.
AN INDIAN HAWKER MURDERED. STRUCK DOWN BY AN AXE. Sydney, August 26. A few weeks ago a young man named William Dederier was arrested at Baggabri on a charge of making a false declaration with intent to withdraw from the Savings Bank a certain amount of money belonging to an Indian hawker. The accused was also charged with the larceny of the latter's hank book. The Indian could not be found, but a cousin of the accused named Fred Dqjlerier, who was also arrested, led ■Hie police to the spot where the body was found hidden. The head of the unfortunate hawker had been split open with an axe, and it appears that one of the cousins attracted the man's attention in front while the other smote him from behind.
