RELIGION IN STATE SCHOOLS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —If it is true that the religious instruction initiated at the State School on Friday morning is to be at the cost of an . extra half-hour for teachers and pupils, then I say the intention of the committee Ims surely not been carried out. That little children should be thus penalised and kept in half an hour extra because pf the religious instruction in the morning, is not right, and I think, under the cir-c-umstciui-eB. the children will fail to take aa ir,tere<slj in the Scripture lessons. If such is the case, I am sure Mr Smith will see that cite religious instruction is not to be a penary but a pleasure in future.— J i'.in. &o. s A Parent. lia- unga, Aug. 22, 1896.
