AGAINST SURREY. THE ENGLISHMEN MAKE A GOOD START. Loxpon, August 17. At the Kensington Oval to-day, the Australians began a return match against Surrey. The wicket- was in excellent condition, and the weather was fine. There is a large attend-
ance. The Home team consists of Abel, Brockwell, Richardson, Wood, Hayward, Lohmann, Baldwin, Have?, Thompson, Kay. and M. Read. The Englishmen won the toss, and elected to bat. At the luncheon adjournment the .score stood : Svkkey—lst Innings. Brockwell, c Kelly, b Trumble ... 19 Abel, not out ... ... 58 Hayward, not oat ... 50 Extras ... ... ... -1 Total for 1 wkt 131 The bowling was completely collared. .lone-, Trumble, (iiffen, Trott, and McKibbin being equally punished. The century was knocked up in an hour and a-half. Later. At the end of the day's play Surrey were all out for 29-"', while the Australians had made 89 without the loss of a wicket.
