GENERAL ITEMS. Sydney, August 12. The tick conference has assembled. Mr Gilruth, of the New Zealand Stock Department, who has been in England, represents that colony. All the colonies, with the exception of West Australia, are represented. The Ministerial delegates met first and submitted a number of questions to the expert members, and those members are now considering them, after which the conference will proceed to discuss their r ecommenda ti on s. August 13. Sapid River has been scratched for the Epsom Handicap. The Farmers' Conference adopted resolutions in favor of railways to agricultural districts, whether they are likely to pay or not, and also in favor of a State Bank. Melbourne, August 12. The outlook of the wheat crop is gloomy owing to dry cold weather, and causes much anxiety. Rain is now falling in some parts, and if it becomes a general downpour will be a saving of the crops for the time being. Perth, August 13. A load has been discovered near Dead Finish ('?), containing gold and essaying 40 ounces of silver to the ton.
