MORE FRIENDLY NATIVES MURDERED. Cape Town, July 27. Captain Baden Powell has begun the construction of a number of forts to guard the Matoppo Hills. Reports from Buluwayo state that the Matabeles, after • the fight at Laing's laager murdered 50 friendly natives. At a crowded meeting a resolution was passed urging the Chartered Company to reinstate Mr Cecil Rhodes. The leading men of the city, however, were mostly absent. General Carrington has ordered a garrison of volunteers to be raised in Buluwayo.
