The Licensing Bill.
DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. [By Telegraph.] [Special to Standard.] Wellington, This Day. A deputation from the Licensed Victuallers' Association interviewed the Premier yesterday, recommending that fair voting be allowed on national prohibition, and objecting to the proposed law by which Prohibitionists were given three votes to one of the liquor party. They urged that a Royal Commission be set up to inquire into the effect in the colony before the issue of national prohibition was put before the people. In reply, Mr Seddon pointed out that the question was beyond the control of the Government, the House having decided in favor of three votes being allowed. Personally he was in favor of the present Bill having a fair trial, and he thought it was injurious to the colony to be continually introducing new legislation on the subject. He was of the opinion that the coming elections would show that the liquor legislation of the Government was generally acceptable to the people.
