SUGAR BEET INDUSTRY.
SUCCESSFUL CULTIVATION. A VALUABLE CROP. Sydney, June 20. Sugar-beet growing promises to become an important industry in the Northern river districts. A recent test in experimental areas showed returns of over 16 tons of roots to the acre, yielding up to 194 percent. of sugar. The value of the roots is at 18s to a guinea per ton. Nearly 200 farmers hav« undertaken the cultivation of the beet, and land is being rapidly taken up. A movement is afoot to form a wealthy syndicate to grow beet on an extensive scale.
