BIG FIRE IN SYDNEY.

——s TWO LARGE WAREHOUSES DESTROYED. A NUMBER OF HANDS THROWN OUT OF WORK. Sydney, June 17. A big conflagration took place in the city this morning, destroying two fourstory buildings, occupied by Jacobs and Co., clothing manufacturers, and Edwards, tea merchants. The fire brigade did elective work, and had it nob been for their strenuous exertions a lire of more extensive dimensions would have been the resolt. About -100 hands will be thrown out of work, the principal number through the destruction of the clothing ware house. The origin of the lire is unknown. The insurances on the block amount to .610,000, the New Zealand office having a line of i'2ooo. Edwards' stock was insured for 1 ">OO and Jacobs for £'9oo, both in the New Zealand oiiice. It is estimated that the insurance will not cover the damage.
