Ai.ckl.vm>, .June ;>. The Mayor ha* paid over to the Public Truattee £1707 19a Id being the sura raised in Auckland for the Branner relief fund, less certain expenses. The New Zealand Shipping Company is collecting a general average of 1 per cent on the cargo of the Waikato owing' to the fire and damage resulting to cargo from water. This will bring in £IOOO. The damage is estimated at £-300.
Vv'ki.i.!<iiT< 'N, June ?>. The damage by the recent lire at Lyeli is estimated at £20,000. A meeting has been called for Friday to form a National Schools Defence Association. In order to make np for the exclusion of the ISiblo from the ordinary curriculum it is proposed to organise a band of teachers who shall give unseetarian religious instruction in public schools after the hours appointed for school duties. The body of a man very much decomposed was found iloating in the harbor to-day. It is thought to be that of a seaman named Carl Brim, who has been missing from the steamer Matatua since the middle of last month.

A young man named Chary, employed at the Utekia station, fell oft a dray to-day, and was killed by the wheel passing over his head. Di ne r>i x. June 8.
Hugh M-Bride, mailman at Headlake, who crossed with the mails on the 28th May. has not been heard of since. His "boat, without oars, was found on the beach, and it is surmised that while .standing in the boat he overbalanced himself.
