Sir Robert Stout addresses the electors of Hastings in the Princess Theatre to-night.

The Hon John McKenzie addressed a public meeting at Cambridge last evening, and received a hearty vote of thanks with an expression of unabated confidence in the Government. The Hon the Premier addressed a crowded meeting at Invercargill last evening. The speaker had an excellent hearing and was frequently applauded. He made reference to the attacks from the platform and in the Press 011 his colleague the Treasurer in his private capacity and contended that no Minister had ever been so abused. The Premier's speech was entirely in reply to that of Captain Russell 011 Monday night, consequently on the lines of previous addresses in the North. At the outset there was a little feeling, and the Premier was told to talk" politics not personalities. The Premier said it was absolutely necessary that Ministers should meet the people as the Press did not do them justice. Regarding the surpluses of the Government he asserted that 011 paper, and in fact, they were as real as those of any previous Government, that of which Captain Russell was a member having left one of £140,000. The Premier spoke till 11.40, and was followed by the Hon. Mr Ward. A motion thanking the Priemer for his address, and expressing continued confidence in the Ministery was carried, with a few dissentients.
