A HARMONIC SOCIETY FOR HASTINGS.

[To THE EIUTOIt.] Sir, —Mr Maughan Barnett's eoncert oil a recent evening suggests the need of a harmonic .society in this town. Even if the different church choirs would nnly l>:>nd together a very efti.'i-'nt orchestra, cnuld }jj formed, p::>1 if once such a society wero started many outsiders would be sure to join the same. There are plenty of instrumentalists here, too—quite enough to form an efficient orchestra. Such a society would raise the standard of music, and perhaps be the moans of forming a School of Music here. Anyway our citizens, to put it as the Irishman did, •' are very backward in coming forward " in matters musical.—l am, <\:c., Lover of Music. Hastings, May 28th, 189 G.
