The Premier in Hawke's Bay.
AT DANEVIEKE
The Premier addressed a largo mooting of electors at Danevirke on Saturday evening in the Theatre. The building was packed. The mayor occupied the chair. The speech was somewhat on the linos of the Hastings address. At its conclusion a vote of thanks to Mr Seddon and confidence in the Government was carried almost unanimously.
AT AVAIPAWA. Yesterday morning by invitation the Premier visited the Maori pah at Tapairu. a couple of miies from Waipawa. The party was well received by the Natives. They asked that a station be erected at Tapairu, and the Premier promised to lay the matter before the Minister of Railways. Mr Seddon also promised to enquire into a complaint r» the Fatima Lake Fishing question. the sale of lands in the Rakauwhathi Block, the Natives were given to understand that if Insoles they became landless they could not look to Government for consideration. They should not sell their lands if this deprived them of a living. Ho was pleased to see them going in for cultivation of the land and adopting European customs. If they continued in this way their numbers must increase and prosperity would come with it. Henry Tomoana and Horerope were the principal speakers on behalf of the Natives. A Maori Brass Band was in attendance and gave several selections. In the evening Mr Seddon addressed a packed meeting in the Theatre, Mr W. H. J. Bennett in the chair. Mr Seddon spoke for 2b hours and was enthusiastically received. At the conclusion a vote of thanks to the Premier and confidence in the Government was carried unanimously, and the meeting broke up with cheers. The mover of the motion (Mr Bridge, who is a largo land-owner) praised the action of the present Government for the stand they bad taken in the leaking up of large estates.
