Accklam>, May 16. Thomas Tremain has been committed on a charge of breaking anil entering the store of W. A. Williams, Rotorua. Wellington, May 16. Ai a meeting of the Wellington Prohibition League last night it was decided to fall in with the recommedation of the Otago and Canterbury Conventions, to strike out the top line only of the local option ballot paper, thereby voting for both prohibition and reduction, and securing an opportunity to reduce if prohibition should not obtain the necessary three-fifth majority. The two boys named Cathro and Needham, who stole £55 from the office of Mr Young, solicitor, were before the Court to-day. The charge was dealt with summarily at Mr Young's request and the boys reinainded for the report of the prohibition officer. News has been received here that G. Keyworth, chief officer of the "W ainui, fell off the Greymonth wharf last night as the steamer was leaving for Westport and was drowned. He had been on the steamer live years. He leaves ft wife and four children here.
Dcxedin, May 17. •James M'Leod, 50 years old, living near Milton, dropped dead in a paddock where he was working. The Presbyterian Synod has decided to erect a Chinese mission hall and for a Chinese missionary in "Walker street, a portion of the city in which Chinese mostly congregate.
