The New Electorate of Pahiatua.

A PROBABLE CANDIDATE. The Paliiatua County has by reason of its increased population become entitled to representation in Parliament, and who is more fitted to have the honor to represent the new constituency than Mr A. Baillie, the popular proprietor of the Pahiatua Herald ? During his residence in that centre Mr Baillie has assisted very materially in all things connected with the advancement of this fertile district. He is naturally shrewd and perticularly long-headed. Someone has said that some men are born great, others achieve greatness, while some have greatness thrust upon them. Mr Baillie belongs to the second division, and no one |is more likely to make his mark than the gentleman mentioned. He is frank and open, and never afraid to call a spade by its right name. In these days of professional politicians it will be something of a novelty to greet a member with sufficient backbone to vote on all subjects as honest conviction prompts him. Party Government in a _ way demands party divisions, and it is a question whether the followers of either the Government or Opposition are justified in pocketing their conscience as party demands. It is certain that if Mr Baillie should be returned for the new constituency—and we sincerely hope the new constituency will have the honour of returning him—he will always have the interests of the colony at heart, and it is equally certain that he will never resemble many of our politicians in blindly answering to a party's call. All who know Mr Baillie will testify to the genuineness of his character, and it only remains for the proposed new electorate to secure the
