THE LATE SIR H. PARKES
MR ASQUITH ON BRITISH INFLUENCE IN AFRICA. London, May 11. The Cobden Club has passed a resolution of regret at the death of Sir Henry Parkes. Mr ,Asquith, speaking at Trowbridge, said the recent disclosures had strained the British claim to be the paramount power in South Africa. He regretted the departure from a strong and consistent linu of policy. A prompt inquiry was demanded.
