PRESIDENT KRUGER ADVISES,
DEATH SENTENCES COM-
MUTED
London, April 29
The Times points out that the prisoners adhered to the terms President Kruger asked, and it is incredible that a civilised Government should hang them because they did not obtain a personal indemnity. Pketoria, April 29.
There is great excitement throughout the Rand, and trouble is feared unless the sentences are commuted. President Ivruger, in the course of an interview, said he trusted the Johannesburg populace would calmly await the decision of the Executive, which would meet on Thursday to consider the matter.
There is now a strong reuulsion of feeling in favour of Mr. Cecil Rhodes among the Afrikanders.
Later
The sentences of death passed on Hammond, Phillips, Farrar, and Rhodes have been commuted.

Cape Town, April 29. I Great excitement prevails in South "f Africa over the trial of the members of the Reform Committee.
Business is at a standstill, and the Exchange at the Rand is closed. The sentence of death was passed in accordance with Dutch law, the Judge stating that bo had no other alternative after the men had been found guilty.
