A VOTE FOR RAILWAY ROLLING-STOCK.
NEW APPOINTMENTS
PREPARING FOR OPENING OF PARLIAMENT.
PROBABLY EARLY IN JUNE
[Special to Standakd.]
Wellington, This Day. The Cabinet has passed a vote of £40,000 to increase the rolling-stock of the Railways, necessitated by the increase of passenger traffic and carriage of stock. ' { Mr Walker, of Wanganui, has been appointed manager of the State farm at Levin. Mr Buckle, formerly Chief Clerk in the Native Land Court, Wellington, has been appointed Registrar in succession to H. Dunbar Johnston, promoted to be Judge of the Native Land Court. Mr McGrath succeeds Mr Buckle as Chief Clerk. The New Zealand Times says it is intended to inaugurate a new system in connection with the preparations for the opening of Parliament. Hitherto it has been customary to confide the work to a.few, and the result has been that it usually spreads over a period of five or six weeks. It is now intended to put more men on, with a view to finishing the work in a little over a week; and by this means a large number of m l will be benefited by the expenditure. As far as can at present be ascertained, it is probable that Parliament will open very early in June.
