POLITICAL NOTES.
(own cohrespondent.) . Wellington, last night. All the business was got through early on Thursday morning, and Parliament has been prorogued. A number of Bills were rushed through without much consideration. A vote of £20,000 was passed for rebuilding tbe Wellington Post Office, as also has a Bill providing for £25,000 a year for colonial defence.
Sir George Grey stated to the House that the Maoris* had a scheme to settle people upon native land. He said that some of the natives were willing to set apart, free of cost, certain portions of good land for the benefit of good agricultural settlors. More will probably be heard of the subject,
