A Grave Scandal

A CROWN PROSECUTOR INTOXICATED A grave scandal occurred in connection with the last sitting of the Sydney Metropolitan quarter sessions. It appears that the Crown Prosecutor, Mr Healey, entered the building in an unmistakeable state of intoxication, and behaved in a most outrageous manner, and as the business of the Court proceeded hie behaviour necessitated Judge Dowling insisting upon order being maintained, and the climax was reached when the Crown Prosecutor suddenly asked, ''Who won the Melbourne Cup P" At thia stage Judge Dowling adjourned the Court for two hours, ana in the meantime another official was procured to go on with the business. The foreman of the jury, at the request of his brother jurors, has entered a protest against such a scandal being allowed to take place, and has gone so far as to state that in the opinion of the jurors certain prisoners were acquitted mainly because of the incapacity of the Crown Prosecutor to perform his duties. Judge Dowling has forwarded a report of the matter to the AttorneyGeneral, who, after due inquiry, has ordered the officer to show cause why he should not be removed from his position.
