In the event of President Grevy resigning the following are likely to become candidates for the Presidency : Jules Ferry, Freycinet, Carnot, General Saussier. Several of the grave charges of corruption against M. Wilson have been proved false. The French Government have been defeated by 328 to 242. The majority were composed almost equally of Conservatives and those holding extreme republican opinions.
