The Mayoral Election.
[To m Editox.] Bib,—l think with you that it is a good sign to see a contest for the Mayoral seat this year, bub I confess that I am unable to agree that the seat has always been satisfactorily occupied. It is unnecessary to look backwards and give reasons for this but the fact is indisputable, and past experience should guide us in the future. We have now three candidates to choose from. It is for us to decide whether we shall have a glib (though I believe conscientious) solicitor, a practical straightforward man, or one that can claim to possess both experience and the ability to utilise it. Give me the latter. By the way, I would like, sir, to enquire how the Harbor Board can manage, when necessity compels them, to do work for £5 which they had set aside £3O. If I mistake not that is the position in respect to the jetty near the bridge. —I am, &c., A Batfpateb. Nov. 16.
