The Te Kooti Scare.

[To thb Editob.] Sib, —You do not seem to have takes up the Te Kooti affair with sufficient seriousness, nor to recognise the gravity of the situation. It is all very well for townspeople to shrug their shoulders and say that the alarm of country settlers is groundless. It is not ourselves that we think of so much as our wives and families, for we know full well that the wretches would be too cowardly to attack those who were able to defend themselves. If Te Kooti and his followers come here it is looked upon as a certainty that he will be “ potted,” and it is retaliation by the followers of the old rascal that is to be feared. lam glad to see that the present Government are not so regardless of the general interest ag we had at first supposed. It seems strange, if your Wellington correspondent’s information is accurate, that no official information has yet been sent to the Government. If Te Kooti does come they may be prepared for something lively.—Yours, &a., SzTxm,

[Our correspondent will notice information elsewhere that the Commanding Officer of the district is in communication with the Government in reference to this matter. We gratefully acknowledge “Settler’s” mild r»minder, but we can see no use in trying to unnecessarily alarm people.]
